Please help out in this important research survey.
This research project will explore fathers’ experiences of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) as a risk factor for Postpartum Depression (PPD). Until recently, PPD has been extensively researched as a concern limited to new mothers (Kim & Swain, 2007). However, fathers also experience significant changes in life after childbirth that can contribute to the development of PPD.
Several risk factors have been identified, these can include biological, psychological, and environmental factors. A number of significant factors that have long been regarded as risk factors for PPD include partner related factors including intimate partner violence. This has been explored particularly for mothers experiencing PPD, and the detrimental impact this can have on mother and baby. Yet for father’s stigma prevails, with a lack of understanding or support for impacted individuals, despite increasing evidence that reveals significant prevalence amongst men.
We are recruiting fathers who have identified that they experienced changes in mood up to a year after the birth of their child. The project involves taking part in an anonymous online survey – meaning no one can connect you to your responses or identify you in any way. This survey should take around 40-45 minutes.
