Risk of Attachment Deficit Disorder at the Department of Education!
With the appointment of David Johnson MP as Minister for Children on 31 August, and assuming he is still there when this reaches you, the average life expectation in that post falls to a little under five months.
There was a time when a meeting with our charity seemed to be part of the induction of each new Minister. Most of them made good undertakings. None lasted long enough to deliver.
Would such a meeting now be the worth the time of our current Chair and CEO? Probably not.
Our people should perhaps look at attachment disorder (and more generally ‘attachment theory’) as part of their researching into what would best help our children. Even more urgent for CAFCASS officers, magistrates and Judges. It’s usually caused by lack of proper parental bonding in childhood and can result in ‘impulsiveness, desire for control, lack of trust, lack of responsibility and addiction’. The effects will not of course become apparent until long after exclusion of one of their parents has taken place.
The link will not be spotted. There have been no follow up studies of what happens following parenting disputes that end up with the exclusion of a parent. Or indeed of cases that appear in the family courts.
